About the Artworks

“The inspiration for my work is the country side in its many forms. Sketches, photographs and observations combine with the inner idea to form the seed for each composition, which goes through many stages of execution before the finished proof emerges.” Stephen Whittle

The Craft of Etching

The craft of etching dates back over 400 years. Nowadays, with the widespread use of photographically reproduced images it is important to emphasize the completely different nature of the autographic prints such as lithographs, etchings, and engravings, where the artist draws the image directly onto the plates and is involved in the very individual methods of inking and printing.
